Solstice Sojourn Mini Retreat Details

Join yoga teacher Madeleine Lohman of MadYoga and herbalist Alexis J. Cunningfolk of Worts & Cunning Apothecary for a two-hour mini retreat the weekend of the summer solstice to connect with the transformative energy the longest day of the year brings.

We’ll begin with Madeleine leading us through gentle movement anchored in breathwork to help us nourish our nervous system and invite in a feeling of calm. The pace will be slow and adaptations will be offered and encouraged, to make the practice accessible to all levels and all bodies.

The second half of our time together will be spent with plants and sounds, starting with herbal teas inspired by the energy of solstice season. We’ll then work with a variety of sacred inquiry techniques to connect with an empowering group of plant allies and make our own mini kit of flower essences to guide us through summer with steadiness and ease. Everyone will take home a solstice inspired collection of tea, flower essences, and guides to the plants we’ll be working with.

Carrying our plant allies with us, Alexis will offer a long enough to be interesting, but short enough to be comfortable sound bath featuring monochord harmonies and crystal singing bowls, helping everyone to settle even deeper into the practice of doing less to experience more.

Solstice Sojourn is great for folks who like yoga but aren’t interested in being anything but gentle with your body; the plant curious who want to connect with herbal medicine as a way to alleviate stress and cultivate a sense of enchantment in your life; and people who want to experience the magick of a sound bath without having to lay on their back for what feels like forever.

Solstice Sojourn is led by queer and BIPOC teachers in a BIPOC space - our approach is intersectional, compassionate, and full of laughter.

A Quick Guide to the Sliding Scale

While I encourage you to read my full thoughts on the sliding scale if you need more guidance, here is a very brief rundown:

  • The top price class ticket is the actual cost of the class. If you choose a ticket price below the top tier you are receiving a discount.

  • The middle price is for those who are able to meet their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying for this class may qualify as a sacrifice but it would not create hardship.

  • The bottom price is for those who struggle to meet basic needs and paying for this class would still be a hardship.

Class Guidelines

We want everyone who joins us to feel welcomed into our space and the following guidelines help make that possible:

  • Please refrain from wearing strong scents.

  • Photos and videos are not allowed during class. Joyfully, all classes we offer are photo and video free zones so that everyone can enjoy a private class experience.

  • If you arrive late, please enter quietly, and we’ll make sure to help you orient to what’s happening, where the bathroom is, etc.

Gilded Roots Studio

The space is on street level but it is not ADA accessible. There is a bathroom on premises. A step leads into the building and there are steps that lead to the back patio area that may be utilized during class. If you have any other questions about the space, please feel free to get in touch.
