The Plant Sabbat is an invitation to go deep into the world of traditional western herbalism’s magickal roots and modern breakthroughs through experiential study and plant-led sound journeys.
Every class will feature one plant teacher (such as Rose, Milky Oat or Mugwort) that we will get to know through spoken instruction as well as experiencing the plant through a variety of forms. Since every class is an opportunity for healing, there will be space to set intentions based on what participants have learned from our plant teacher. At the end of each class we will finish with a plant sound journey - a simple form of meditation combined with a sound bath and ingestion or application of plant medicine such as a tincture or herbal oil. During this time of immersive plant remedy and sound, students are given an opportunity to integrate what they’ve learned as well as having time to begin to build a personal relationship with the plant they’ve just met.
The Plant Sabbat ends as it begins - in a place of grounded centeredness. Every participant will leave with a full printed profile of the plant studied as well as a simple herbal remedy.
The Plant Sabbat is open to all experience levels as the focus is on building a personal relationship with our plant allies and, in turn, with ourselves. For those new to herbalism, you’ll learn an invaluable way to pay attention to what a plant has to offer as well as your own intuition. For practicing herbalists, you’ll have an opportunity to learn about plant medicine in a new way and rekindle the inner spark which guides you on your path as a healer.
Why sound baths?
Ambient, resonant sound, like those of crystal singing bowls, activate specific frequencies in our brain through a process known as entrainment. Simply put, the right sound helps us to slip into meditative states of being and activate our self-healing capabilities without effort or having ever had practiced meditation before. When herbal remedies are included in a sound bath something really special happens - the walls between people and plants begins to fade away as we remember that there was never a wall there in the first place. As our ancestors and observers of our origins and progress, Plants have a lot to offer us in coming to understand who we are and how we heal. Through intention-filled sound baths aided by our herbal allies, we’re able to build heart-centered relationships with the world of plant and, in the process, awaken our own inherent wisdom.
A Quick Guide to the Sliding Scale
While I encourage you to read my full thoughts on the sliding scale here is a very brief rundown:
The second-to-top price class ticket is the actual cost of the class (the top price option is for paying-it-forward - see below). If you choose a ticket price below the top tier you are receiving a discount.
The middle price is for those who are able to meet their basic needs but have little-to-no expendable income. Paying for this class may qualify as a sacrifice but it would not create hardship.
The bottom price is for those who struggle to meet basic needs and paying for this class would still be a significant hardship.
The Pay-It-Forward price is a few bucks above the actual cost of the class and that extra money goes towards supporting scholarships as well as future free and low-cost classes. Essentially it's an opportunity to not only take your class but also support your fellow community members while you're at it. Sweet!
