Bonfire Offerings: A Summer Solstice Tarot Spread

The Summer Solstice is a time of illumination + mirth!

Our tarot spread for the Summer Solstice (known also as Midsummer and Litha) focuses on our brightness and how we shine (or shadow) in our relationships with ourselves, our families, friends, and lovers, and to the land. We take a look at where the shadows lie and prepare ourselves for the coming harvest as the wheel turns towards Lammas or Lughnasadh.

1. SUNRISE. What is your source of abundant growth?

2. BONFIRE. Where do you shine brightest? How do you illuminate the world? Adversely, what do you fear to show the world? What holds you back from exposing your greatness?

3. SUNSET. What is it that you have to give?

4. SUMMER SUN. Overview of the strengths of your relationships between friends, family, and lovers.

5. SUMMER SHADOW. Overview of the weaknesses of your relationships between friends, family, and lovers.

6. SACRED HERBS. Overview of your relationship to the green world including the food you eat.

7. LAND SPIRITS. Overview of your relationship to the land spirits.

8. STIRRINGS. What part of you is awakening as the wheel turns towards the first harvest?

Fire + Fields : A Beltane Tarot Spread

Beltane is a time of pleasure + joy!

At Beltane we have an opportunity to glimpse our slumbering selves dwelling deep below at Samhain (for these points on the wheel of the year mirror each other) as well as connect with our growing fires of desire, direction, and determination. The Fire + Fields spread explores the energy of the season focusing on the central fire of our soul's desire.

1. THE SLUMBERING SELF. The unconscious murmuring that guides our bright year adventures. What part of you remains dreaming from Samhain and the dark part of the year?

2. THE SEEDLING. Nurtured since the Spring Equinox, the seedlings have grown into young plants. What has been growing in your life and now is ready for the maturity of summer?

3. THE WOOD. That which supports your fire – your ambitions, drive, work, relationships, and service to the world.

4 + 5. THE SPARKS. How your work is perceived agains the night and the multitudes of works in the universe. Your particular role in community, family, romantic relationships, workplace, circle + more. Also the way you spark fires in others (especially romantically).

6 + 7. THE EMBERS. The fire we carry with us through the rest of the year until next Beltane. What should you seek to carry and preserve? What path of desire are you to follow?

8. THE YEAR + A DAY VOW. What is the vow you are making this Beltane to keep for a year and a day? What can you be brave enough to change for that period that will best strengthen you and your hopes, dreams, and goals?

Brightening : A Spring Equinox Tarot Spread

The Spring Equinox is a time of brightening.

It is a time of equal day and equal night when the Sun matches the Earth's axis. From here on until the Summer Solstice the days will grow longer, the light lingering and the fields growing ripe with herb and grain. We are firmly in the season of ascent and the quiet of winter gives way to the cacophony of a buzzing earth. Our Spring Equinox examines the current balance of our lives, the gifts of the season, and how we prepare for the ascent into the growing bright.

INHALE. What are you breathing in? In other words, what are the sources of your vital energy during the season of spring. This card may point to balances or imbalances in consumption of food, time, stress, sleep, and other day-today activities.
EXHALE. What are you breathing out? What are you shedding and undoing – how are you clearing from your own body its winter coat in order to allow space the fresh energy of spring?
ASCENT. How are you preparing for the ascent to Beltane?
GUIDE. Tools of the journey. These may be skills to use or guide(s) to help you navigate the ascent into the bright half of the year.
SEED. What are you planning to plant this season – what seeds have you saved from last year's harvest or gathered anew that you are planning to grow?
BUDDING GIFTS. What buds of spring are blossoming in your life? This card shows spring gifts, whether your own new or blooming skills or gifts from an outside source. It also may be a reminder to pay attention to the gifts you have already received.
BALANCING OUT. What needs to be balanced by expanding your energy outwards?
BALANCING IN. What needs to be balanced by retracting your energy inwards?

Quickening: An Imbolc Tarot Spread

While pulling a card is a common affair in the Apothecary, throughout the year I take time to pull a full spread that helps me to connect with the current energies of the seasons (the mighty macrocosm) as well as my own rhythms (the mighty microcosm). Checking in with myself helps me to be able to check in with others better. I am a better member of my relationships, my communities, and my family when I take time to know what is going on in my world. Tarot has been one of my oldest tools of sorcerous accountability - the 78 ever-changing paths of wisdom help lead me back to myself again and again. As the wheel of the year turns, I invite you to make time for tarot, some tea, sacred songs, maybe some dancing, and get tucked into your story and the truths it tells.

Imbolc is a time of quickening. The word Imbolc is from the Gaelic for “in the belly” and speaks of the promise of spring, even when winter lingers. Think of the earth stretching before arising from her winter bed and her blood warming beneath her skin of soil. Our Quickening tarot spread for Imbolc is about paying attention to those seed dreams we discovered within ourselves in the dark of the year, focusing on how we can nurture our dream into reality.

1. SEED. What is the dream seed that I hope to grow in the brightening year?
2 + 3. QUICKENING. What energies are stirring awake within me? What part of myself that has been slumbering is slowly awakening?
4. FIRE. What aids and inspires my dream seed?
5. ICE. What blocks and challenges my dream seed?
6 + 7. FORGE. How can I support and shape my dream into reality? What are my best tools for the job?
8. SURFACING. What part of my dream is currently emerging and what should I seek to support right now?
