A New Tea for Two!

We are proud to present the latest in our pregnancy and postpartum tea series: Sweet Nectar Milk Blend. A tea to support breastfeeding, Sweet Nectar Milk Blend combines of galactagogue, nutritious, and nervine herbs.  Sweet Nectar Milk Blend encourages the production of milk by stimulating milk flow, providing the body with nutrients, and calming and relaxing mama by supporting the nervous system.

A Tea for Each Trimester: Herbal Tea Blends for Pregnancy

Consistency is good - and consistent variety even better!  When I began to create a blend to support the needs of a growing pregnant body, I created birthed three.  Triplets!  While each tea can be enjoyed at any time during your pregnancy, I crafted them to build upon each other and to address specific issues that tend to happen during different parts of pregnancy.  Budding pays special attention to building up nutrients in the body and relieving morning sickness.  Blooming brings in herbs that are especially strengthening and tonifying to the uterus, as well as calming herbs like Chamomile, to regulate and sustain energy levels.  Blossoming continues to tonify the uterus and also includes herbs to help bring milk and the development of colostrum.

Budding: First Trimester Tea Blend

Nettles Urtica dioica: Abundantly nutritive, Nettles also strengthen the body against environmental pollutants which is important during early pregnancy. Nettles contain vitamin B, C, E, K, beta-carotene, calcium, silica, and more, providing energy to support you throughout your pregnancy. They also improve circulation and tone muscles, tissues, arteries, and skin.

Hawthorn Crataegus monogyna: A gentle adaptogen. Strengthens the heart through its circulatory powers and also benefits the joint lining, collagen, and discs in the back – needed to support extra weight..

Meadowsweet Filipendula ulmaria: In an herbal from 1597 the scent of Meadowsweet was said to “mak[e] the heart merry and joyful and delighteth the senses.” Along with joy and delight, Meadowsweet also contains vitamin C, iron, and silica, easing the body of inflammation, heartburn, nausea, and general aches and pains.

Peppermint Mentha piperita: Clears the head, soothes muscle spasms, and relieves morning sickness. Also contains vitamin C, beta-carotene, and B-complex vitamins.

Ginger Zingiber officinale: A classic remedy for morning sickness and tasty, too! Ginger is warming, uplifting, and protects against colds and the 'flu.

Strawberry leaf Fragraria vesca: A pregnancy tonic, Strawberry leaf is cooling to the system, helps protect against miscarriage, and adds sweetness to the blend.

Blooming: Second Trimester Tea Blend

Raspberry leaf Rubus idaeus: Raspberry leaf is one of the best herbs for pregnancy because it strengthens and tonifies the uterus. With a high mineral content, Raspberry leaf is very nourishing and can help prevent false labor, miscarriage, labor pain, placental delivery, and the risk of postpartum hemorrhage. Raspberry leaf also increases colostrum in the milk.

Oat Avena sativa: Nourishes hair, skin, and nails with its high silica content. Calming and nutritive, Oats also help to relieve insomnia.

Rose hips Rosa canina: Rich in flavonoids, Rose hips relieve night sweats, prevent UTIs, hypertension, hemorrhoids, and exhaustion. Also effective in treating and preventing stretch marks from inside out.

Alfalfa Medicago sativa: Aids in the body's assimilation of nutrients. Contains vitamins C and K, folic acid, iron, manganese, zinc, digestive enzymes, and is very rich in chlorophyll.

Herbs for Sassiness

The first of a series of teas for pregnancy, labor, and postpartum, Sassy Mama, was made with the postpartum in mind, whether it has been a few weeks since the birth of your bundle of baby or a few years.  Or let's be honest, a decade plus.  With the entrance of a new member of the family into your life it is important to feed body and spirit because so much change has occurred and sometimes it can seem hard to keep up with it all.  That's why we keep it sassy!

Sassiness needs to be nurtured in order to be maintained and our Sassy Mama tea blend gives your body the respect it needs, saying “That's right!  You’re awesome!”  Full of nutritive herbs, Sassy Mama helps restore vitality and lift the spirit and keep you cool under the stresses of daily life with kids.  Most importantly it just might help give you the peace you need to really appreciate the family you're creating.  Or at least give you the clarity to call up some help from your community of friends and family  (who wants to spend some quality time at your Aunties' house?).

Sassy Mama is best steeped overnight to bring out the full flavor of the following herbs:

HAWTHORN BERRIES Crataegus monogyna: Hawthorne Berries are like a love letter to the heart.  Their adaptogenic, nervine, and nutritive rich properties are very strengthening, promoting circulation and calm.

CHAMOMILE Matricaria recutita: A very attentive and cheerful herb, Chamomile helps soothe the irritation in both body and mind.  Helpful when sleep is difficult because of stressed nerves and indigestion caused by stress and maybe less-than-ideal eating habits from grabbing what we can.

ALFALFA Medicago sativa: Nutritious, delicious, Alfalfa helps the body better assimilate nutrients – which means more energy for being sassy!

ROSE Rosa damascena: Enhances positive emotions and reminds us to love who we are, what we got, and how we show up in the world.

LAVENDER Lavandula officinalis: Cooling, calming, and refreshing, Lavender improves mental clarity and accuracy.

SACRED BASIL Ocimum sanctum: An especially holy herb, as the name implies, Sacred Basil helps grow our bodies into vibrant health, helping the body adapt to stress both internal and environmental.
